CCI directs TFFI to stop involvement in anti-competitive activities

New Delhi, 13 December (Hindustan Reporter). The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has directed the Table Tennis Federation of India (TFFI) and its affiliated bodies to stop indulging in anti-competitive activities. However, CCI has not imposed any monetary penalty on TFFI and its associates.

Fair trade regulator CCI said in a statement on Friday that a direction has been issued to the Table Tennis Federation of India (TFFI) and its affiliated bodies to stop indulging in anti-competitive activities. The regulator has decided not to impose any monetary penalty on the federation and its partners, with the federation taking corrective steps to address concerns of unfair practices.

A day earlier i.e. on Thursday, CCI had issued notice to Suburban Table Tennis Association (TSTTA), Maharashtra State Table Tennis Association (MSTTA), Gujarat State Table Tennis Association (GSTTA) and Table Tennis Federation of India under the provisions of Section 27 of the Competition Act, 2002. This order was passed against the (TTFI) for violation of the provisions of Section 3(4) and 4 of the Act on denial of agreement and abuse of effectiveness.

The commission said the case was initiated on the basis of a complaint filed by the TT Friendly Super League Association under Section 19(1)(a) of the Competition Act. However, the Competition Commission issued a cease-and-desist order under Section 27 of the Act, but decided not to impose any monetary penalty on the Table Tennis Federation of India and its associate bodies.
