Meet Ethan Holliday, the top prospect in the upcoming draft (and Jackson’s brother)

In recent years, we have been watching Jackson Holliday a lot in Baltimore. Matt’s son was drafted first overall in 2021, and at 20 years old, he made his major league debut this year.

He had some difficulties… but he still had some good times for a 20 year old.

That said, while he’s been talked about a lot, there’s another Holliday who’s starting to gain attention in the baseball world: Ethan Holliday, Jackson’s younger brother.

We are talking here about a young person who is currently 17 years old (he will be 18 next February), but above all, we are talking about a young person who will be eligible for the next MLB draft…

And above all, from a young man who, according to MLB Pipeline, is the best prospect of the next vintage. Nothing less.

This means that there exists a very real world in which for the second time in four years, a Holliday is selected first in the draft.

We agree that it would be a great feat of arms.

The Washington Nationals have the first pick in 2025.

What makes young Holliday such a promising prospect? In fact, he looks a bit like his brother Jackson… but by the latter’s own admission, Ethan is an improved version.

His power, for example, sets him apart from his brother: Jackson has some power, but Ethan is really a big left-handed hitter. And his momentum is absolutely beautiful.

And if Jackson is seen as a guy who should be a solid player in the middle of the infield, Ethan (who is taller) looks like the archetype of a big, athletic third baseman. He’s not as fast as his brother, but he’s athletic enough to hold his own at third base.

There are still a few aspects that are a bit worrying in his case (his batting discipline is a small red flag), but overall, we are talking about a player who already has all the elements that make him a very promising hope.

Things have time to change, and Holliday doesn’t have a huge head start on the rest of the group, but right now he’s the favorite to be drafted first overall in the draft.

Let’s see if, for the second time in four years, the Holliday family can celebrate at the top pick of the auction.
