It’s a small disappointment for Belgian tennis fans. While the 3rd edition of the BW Open (ATP 125) was to take place in Louvain-la-Neuve in January 2025, this will ultimately not happen.
According to our colleagues from TV Com, the tournament management would have in fact sent an email to all the partners, stipulating that the 3rd edition of the tournament, scheduled in a little over a month (January 20-26) was purely and simply canceled.
“We prefer to skip the 2025 edition and calmly prepare for the 2026 edition” states, quite laconically, Christophe Dister, Co-Tournament Director.
Behind the scenes, and still according to TV Com, there is also talk of a “reduction in public subsidies” and “long-standing unfulfilled commitments”.
Still, this sudden – and quite unexpected – announcement casts a chill over the rest of the operations. As a reminder, the 2nd co-organizer, Vincent Stavaux, prosecuted for indecency against minors, was asked to withdraw from the organization a few weeks ago.
So, did his ouster play a role in the cancellation of the tournament. Is the BW Open in danger in the near future? For now, it’s still too early to tell.
In any case, Belgian tennis fans will have to wait a few more months before knowing the successor of Leandro Riediwinner last year.
