Mixed badminton first half of the season: narrow success in Berlin as a conciliatory conclusion

Trittau/Berlin. As expected, the leaders of the northern group of the 2nd league did not distribute any gifts to STC Blau-Weiß Solingen. TSV Trittau underlined its strong form in its own hall and defeated the guests from the city of blades 5-2. In the second away game of the weekend, the Blue-Whites concluded the first half of the season with a 4-3 win at the Berlin Breweries. The Solingen badminton team got two points and, after a rather mixed half-series, ended the winter in eighth place in the table with 13 points, but was well ahead of the two relegation places.

Fouyn scores twice against the leaders

While Niklas Niemczyk, the team captain and one of the point guarantees, took a break, the new Belgian top player Charles Fouyn already proved his worth at league leader Trittau despite the clear defeat in the end. Fouyn was involved in both point wins: He won the extremely exciting and competitive first men’s singles against the Dane Mathias Solgaard 11:9 in the decisive fifth set. The Belgian also scored points alongside Markus Hennes in the first men’s doubles. Rather, there was no winning: only Nikolas Klauer managed to win another set.

The victory in Berlin against an opponent at eye level was important.

On Sunday in the federal capital, the Solingen second division team was able to avert an impending defeat on the home straight and decide the game in their favor. The decisive factor for this was the hard-fought four-set victories of Nikolas Klauer and Markus Hennes/Sophie Heidebrecht in the mixed doubles. Previously, the women’s doubles Alicia Molitor/Heidebrecht won after being 2-0 down and the men’s doubles Fouyn/Justin Dang, who prevailed in three sets. In the first men’s singles, Fouyn came away empty-handed this time: he lost to the top British player Cholan Kayan from Berlin in three sets.

Niels Kock, team spokesman at the weekend, was satisfied with the performance and results: “The important thing was the win in Berlin against an opponent at eye level. So we finished the first half of the season with a good performance.” The second half of the season begins on Saturday, January 11th with the same opponents. The STC welcomes Berlin and Trittau to the Wittkulle sports hall.
