Eugenie Bouchard suffered an eye injury during pickleball practice. The tennis beauty informs about her health status.
TORONTO – Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard, known for her success on the court, recently suffered an injury that landed her in a hospital emergency room. During pickleball training, the 30-year-old was hit in the eye by a plastic ball. The former Wimbledon finalist informed her 2.3 million followers on Instagram about the incident and posted pictures showing her wearing an eye patch.
Tennis player badly injured in the eye
In her Instagram post, Bouchard wrote: “Got hit in the eye by a pickleball at practice today. I was in the emergency room and I have a scratch on my cornea. What we don’t do for this sport!” Despite the alarming circumstances, she reassured her fans and assured that she would be fit again “in a few days”.
Bouchard, who reached the Wimbledon final in 2014 and has been playing pickleball for some time, has announced she will be active on the pickleball tour in 2024. Nevertheless, she doesn’t want to turn her back on tennis. “I will schedule tennis tournaments if I can fit them into my schedule. Tennis is what I love and what I want to continue doing. The pickleball program is a priority, but I also want to continue participating in tennis tournaments,” said the 30-year-old.
Pickleball: A new focus for ex-tennis ace Bouchard
Pickleball, a trendy sport that combines elements of tennis, table tennis and badminton, has gained popularity in recent years. Bouchard, once considered a tennis prodigy, has dedicated herself to the sport with passion. However, the accident also shows the risks associated with fast play. She already had a match last month where her opponent hit the plastic ball directly on her body.
The determination to keep going despite the injury underlines Bouchard’s commitment to the sport. Her plan to stay active in both pickleball and tennis shows her versatility and passion. Fans can rest assured: Eugenie Bouchard will soon be back on the court, be it with a tennis or pickleball racket in hand. (ck)
