UEFA: Germany could win the Nations League final

Germany has the best prospects for a mini summer fairy tale. If the DFB selection survives the quarter-finals of the Nations League against Italy, then the final tournament in June will be the next home tournament.

One year after the home European Championship, Germany can host a summer tournament again. As the European football association Uefa announced, the finals of the Nations League will take place from June 4th to 8th either in Germany or Italy. The decision on the host will be made based on the sporting comparison between the two four-time world champions.

The winner of the quarter-finals will be awarded the final tournament. The German national team will first play in Milan on March 20th, followed by the second leg in Dortmund on March 23rd.

Munich and Stuttgart as venues

Munich and Stuttgart are planned as venues for the final tournament. Should Julian Nagelsmann’s selection prevail against the Squadra Azzurra, the winner of the quarter-final between Portugal and Denmark would initially be the opponent on June 4th. The second finalist will be determined on June 5th, between the winners of the knockout duels in March between Spain and the Netherlands and France and Croatia.

The next Nations League winner will be chosen on June 8th, and the game for third place will also take place on the same day. Germany has never reached the final tournament in the previous three editions of the competition.

The DFB applied with a total of nine possible venues. However, UEFA’s preference was towards the south, as the Champions League final is already taking place in Munich on May 31st and many of the logistical preparations in the stadium have already been made there. Italy is entering the race with two stadiums in Turin.
