After a successful double match day in the Wipperfürth VOSS Arena, 1. BC Wipperfeld catapulted itself back to the top of the table in the 1. Badminton Bundesliga, at least temporarily.
A large part of the team’s success on this eighth matchday was played by the Danish Kajsa van Dalm, who impressed across the board in her first division debut in the women’s singles. On Saturday she defeated Kim Schmidt from 1. BC Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim in four sets (7:11, 11:9, 11:9, 11:2). This Sunday she managed a respectable three-set win against Melina Wild from SG Schorndorf (11:7, 11:4, 11:8). Van Dalm went onto the field as the favorite today, which was reflected throughout the course of the game, but her opponent still played a good third set, which the Wipperfeld woman didn’t let that disturb her concentration. Kajsa van Dalm confidently converted the first match point and the matter was clear. With her win, she gave the BCW team a 5-1 lead.
On both days, Frenchman Arnaud Merkle was in top shape and clearly superior, making a significant contribution to the team’s success. On Saturday he first defeated Mark Caljouw from Bischmisheim in three sets (11:8, 11:4, 11:4). The French national player, who comes from Alsace, presented a similar brilliant performance today against Azmy Qowimuramadhoni from SG Schorndorf (11:3 , 11:7, 11:7).
After around an hour it was 4-0 for 1. BC Wipperfeld today. This clearly showed the class difference between the BCW and the SG Schorndorf. Only Aaron Sonnenschein sparked too late today and was no longer able to prevail against his opponent David Kramer in the third set. Therefore, in the end he had no choice but to accept his defeat (4:11, 4:11, 10:12).
With the deserved final result of 6:1 against SG Schorndorf, 1. BC Wipperfeld has three points for the table standings. Yesterday’s game against the rivals from Saarbrücken ended 5:2 and brought the BCW two points.
The next matchday after the Christmas break is also scheduled as a double matchday, for January 11th/12th, 2025. Then 1. BC Wipperfeld welcomes 1. BC Beuel at home on Saturdays at 4:00 p.m. and the Rhenish-Bergian competition from Refrath on Sundays at 2:30 p.m.
