Last Sunday, the spectators at the Chase Center in San Francisco witnessed a spectacular game that has already gone down in the NBA history books as the game with the most three-pointers made in total: 48.
The game was exciting from start to finish: The Golden State Warriors lost at home to the Dallas Mavericks 133:143. It was special for many reasons, including Klay Thompson’s second visit to San Francisco on the opposing team. Thompson played for the Golden State Warriors between 2011 and 2024, helping the Bay Area team to four titles.
This season he moved to the Texas team Dallas Mavericks. Last month, Thompson was in San Francisco with standing ovation welcomed despite playing on the opposite side during the Mavs’ first visit to San Francisco this season.
The Golden State Warriors won that day, but the result was reversed last night with the Mavericks and Thompson winning. Despite the result, Warriors fans were happy to see Thompson back in their stadium and pay homage to Stehpen Curry, Thompson’s former “Splash Brother.” It shows that some players earn such a high level of respect that transcends rivalries.
Triple spectacle and new NBA record
Additionally, the game broke an NBA record. Never before have 48 three-pointers been hit in a single game. The Warriors scored even more points, 27 of 54 attempts (50%) and the Mavericks hit 21 of 41 long-range attempts (51.2%). The previous record was 45 three-point shots.
A total of 13 players found the basket outside the 3-point range. Thompson for the Mavs and Curry for the Warriors each scored seven points. Luka Dončić scored six but was the Mavs’ top scorer with 45 points. Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins each hit five triples.
