Live ticker for the 2025 federal election: Habeck rejects the TV duel with Weidel

According to a newspaper report, the parties want to increase security precautions for their employees for the federal election campaign. An SPD spokesman told the Berlin daily newspaper “taz” (Tuesday) that there would be a hotline in the party headquarters Willy Brandt House to which incidents can be reported. Training on de-escalation, protecting events and dealing with hate on the internet also takes place.

The SPD spokesman emphasized that poster campaigns and information stands should not take place alone, but with a minimum number of participants. Clear agreements with the security authorities are also required. A CDU spokeswoman told the “taz” that the safety of those campaigning was the top priority. Training and information sessions are currently being held to raise awareness of how to deal with physical and verbal violence. There are discussions with the regional associations about specific security issues on site.

A Green Party spokesman spoke of high security precautions and training for the election campaign and announced cooperation with the police at events. Left federal managing director Janis Ehling told the “taz” that activists would be increasingly sensitized. There is a contact address to which incidents should be reported. “If there are threats or damage to materials, we advise members to call the police and report it,” said Ehling.
