NBA legend Kevin Durant opposes the new All Star Game formula. The Phoenix Suns basketball player told the local press that he wanted to return to the historic East-West duel.
The NBA announced in recent days the establishment of a new system bringing together four teams around matches played to 40 points. A provision in place from the next edition on February 16, 2025 in San Francisco.
“I hate it. I really hate it. Horrible. (…) All these formats have been horrible in my opinion. We should return to an East-West match, only in one match. (…) I think it should remain traditional,” declares the 36-year-old icon.

In 2018, the East-West format was abandoned in favor of a draft system between captains to form the teams. “We should keep traditions. But hey, we’ll see how it works,” added the star who has a total of 14 appearances in the All-Star Game, including two MVP titles. “You never know, maybe I’m wrong. »

Former stars Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith will be responsible for making up three of the four teams in this new format. The last training will honor the winner of the Rising Stars Challenge, a “preliminary” tournament for young players from the NBA and G-League, the development league.
