The Paco de Lucía Auditorium of the Alcobendas Art Center was the scene yesterday of the gala of the first Sports Awards in master categoryan act that sought to recognize the merits of athletes, sports entities and clubs that have excelled in this category throughout the year, both in competition and in the promotion of sporting activity.
Outstanding recognitions
The mayor of Alcobendas, Rocío García Alcántara, and the Sports Councilor, Jesús Tortosa, presented awards to athletes who have shone in disciplines such as athletics, cycling, fencing, horse riding, judo, karate, swimming, archery and triathlon. Among the winners are several Spanish champions, such as:

Athletics: Juan Antonio Ramos (Spanish record in 50 km road), Mónica Berrocal (outdoor heptathlon champion), Chala Defterali (pentathlon) and Magaly Vázquez (long jump).

Fencing: José Olivares and Javier Alonso.

Judo: Guillermo Arranz and Marius Andei.

Karate: Ángela Mayoral and José Manuel Lara.

Swimming: Miguel Ángel Tristán and Óscar Rodríguez.
In the Police category, local agents Carlos Merino, Sara Aguirre and Fernando Barroso were recognized, who stood out in the last European Police & Fire Games held in Portugal.

The gala concluded with the presentation of three special awards:

Best Master Male Athlete 2024: Juan Luis Blanco, European champion judoka, world runner-up and bronze medalist in the Spanish championship.

Best Master Female Athlete 2024: Ángeles Luis Maroto, bronze medalist athlete in the European 10 km and half marathon, as well as in the national 5,000 m outdoors.

Special Master Award 2024: Ecosport Triathlon women’s team, which brings together more than 40 federated women, becoming a sporting reference both nationally and internationally.
Alcobendas, European City of Sports 2025
During the event, the Councilor for Sports, Jesús Tortosa, highlighted the quality of the master athletes of Alcobendas: “You are an example for everyone and proof of the sporting excellence that has led our city to be recognized as European City of Sports 2025.”
The gala underlined the City Council’s commitment to sport in all its modalities and categories, celebrating the talent and effort of the athletes who represent Alcobendas both inside and outside of Spain.
