The end of the year is approaching in Argentine football. The season that began in January is three days away from ending with the Champions Trophy dispute. Estudiantes will be one of its protagonists and just as they raised the curtain of the year with the start of the Argentine Cup, they will be the one to lower it, now in their confrontation against Vélez, the brand new champion of the Professional League.
El Pincha, in addition to looking for a new star and crowning the year with another smile, will begin to know the future of two very important people on their team: coach Eduardo Domínguez and one of his references on the field, Enzo Pérez. The DT has already agreed to its continuity.
The fans were beginning to get impatient with the lack of definition and wanted to know what will happen to both, much more so considering that the agreement with Foster Gillett did not advance and everything indicates that there will be no news until February of next year.
The case of Eduardo Domínguez was different from that of Enzo Pérez. Although he also had a contract until December 31, just yesterday the Club’s social networks announced his renewal, which was an open secret but as the weeks passed and it was not announced, speculation began. Well, yesterday they completely ran out and, for the most part, it was good news.
The coach was waiting for the possible agreement with Gillett to be resolved for 150 million dollars, a situation that, as this newspaper has been reporting, is on hold. The transfer market will be carried out with the money that the Club has, although it is not ruled out that it will obtain some advance of dollars to reinforce a squad that needs it in various sectors of the field. But, of course, it will not be in the same way as if the businessman’s dollars entered.

In this way, Eduardo Domínguez will lead Pincha throughout the 2025 season and is three months away from surpassing the record that no coach at the Club has achieved in 24 years: surpassing the barrier of two years in office. Since Néstor Craviotto in 2002, a coach has not spent more than 24 months sitting in the coach’s chair. In February he will break that barrier.
The steering wheel case seems to be settled. From Núñez they affirm that he will be the first reinforcement for Marcelo Gallardo in River. They consider his incorporation to the Millonario to be certain now that Martín Demichelis is no longer there, whom if he changes path he could cross paths again in the Club World Cup match.
“I know you will have many doubts and questions. But now is not the time to talk. I want to leave with beautiful memories and in peace. With the peace of mind of having left everything,” he said when he confirmed that he was retiring from the Millonario club in mid-December 2023.
“What they tell you is that you will find all the comforts but also a lifestyle”
Eduardo Dominguez
The man from Mendoza arrived at Pincha in December of last year, once River played and won the 2024 Champions Trophy against Rosario Central. Before that game (it was played on December 22) he announced his departure. That’s why all eyes were on him.
“I knew they were going to take care of me, give me love so that I felt comfortable. When you leave, your career ends, you need a little of that.”
Enzo Pérez,
upon arriving at the Pincha
Now from those around them they warned that the decision will be made once the match is over. Or rather: he will report it after the final whistle. Maybe he will confirm that he is leaving Estudiantes but not that he will go to River. Or both. But the strongest rumor is that he will leave after one season.
On the other hand, those who have already defined their future are Pablo Piatti and Federico Fernández, who announced that they will not continue in Pincha and in professional football after this final. Both announced in due time that they were retiring, one more than three months ago and the other a little less. The two want to emulate Mariano Andújar and Mauro Boselli, who retired with the title in the Argentine Cup last year.
The other player who will leave Pincha at the end of the tournament is Luciano Lollo, possibly a starter in Saturday’s final. Your contract will not be renewed.
In addition, the success will include Javier Altamirano, who will go on loan to regain continuity and surely Gastón Benedetti, in this case on a transfer.
