The gala of the first ‘Sports Awards in Alcobendas in the master’s categoryin it Paco de Lucía Auditorium of the Alcobendas Art Center.
These awards highlight the achievements of athletes, sports organizations, foundations, clubs and legal entities or persons who have stood out this year in said category, either in competitions or in the promotion of sporting activity.
Outstanding athletes
The prizes awarded by the mayor, Rocío García Alcántara, next to the Councilor for Sports, Jesús Tortosato the most outstanding master athletes in disciplines such as athletics, cycling, fencing, horse riding, judo, karate, swimming, archery and triathlon.
Among the winners are several national champions: Juan Antonio Ramos (champion and Spanish record holder in 50 km road), Mónica Berrocal (outdoor heptathlon), Chala Defterali (pentathlon) and Magaly Vázquez (long jump) in athletics; in fencing, José Olivares and Javier Alonso; in judo, Guillermo Arranz and Marius Andei; in karate, Ángela Mayoral and José Manuel Lara; as well as in swimming, Miguel Ángel Tristán and Óscar Rodríguez.
In the Police category, the winners of the recent European Police & Fire Games, which took place in Portugal, the following were awarded: Carlos Merino (who won a gold medal in the 50 m freestyle, 50 m backstroke, 50 m butterfly and 100 m freestyle in swimming), Sara Aguirre (won a gold medal in paddle tennis, both women’s and mixed) and Fernando Barroso ( who took the gold medal in mixed paddle tennis).
Example of excellence
Jesus Tortosa stressed “the great quality of our master athletes, who have taken Alcobendas to the top. “You are an example,” he added, “for everyone and proof of the great quality and sporting excellence that have earned us the recognition as European City of Sports 2025, which we received in Brussels just a few days ago.”
Special distinctions
The delivery of the Special Awards marked the closing of the gala, recognizing the judoka Juan Luis Blanco (European champion, world runner-up and bronze medalist in the Spanish national championship) as the Best Male Master Athlete 2024; the athlete Ángeles Luis Maroto (who won the bronze medal in the European 10 km and half marathon championships, as well as in the national 5,000 m outdoor track championship) as the Best Master Female Athlete 2024; and the women’s team of the Ecosport Triathlon (a project that includes more than 40 federated women, standing out as a benchmark in the sport both nationally and internationally) as the 2024 Special Master Award.
