Misiones cemented its reputation as a premier sporting destination in 2024, hosting a diverse array of national and international competitions that drew thousands of athletes and spectators. The year kicked off with the Argentine men’s volleyball team choosing Misiones as their training ground ahead of the Paris Olympics. The team, led by captain Luciano De Cecco, utilized the state-of-the-art facilities at the Provincial High Performance Sports Center (CePARD) in Posadas, praising the focused environment and remarkable conditions.
CePARD also welcomed Olympic medalist Paula Pareto and the Argentine judo team for a national cadet training camp. pareto lauded the center’s facilities, comparing the quality of the tatami mats to those found in Europe. Monte Carlo, renowned as the birthplace of missionary handball, hosted two national tournaments, attracting over 600 athletes and boosting local tourism and gastronomy. The province also welcomed the National Figure Skating Tournament in Posadas,bringing together over 1,500 skaters from across the country. Governor Hugo Passalacqua underscored the significance of the event, emphasizing the positive impact of sports on health and community spirit.
Motorsports enthusiasts were treated to thrilling races as the Road Tourism (TC) and National Tourism (TN) championships roared through Misiones. The TC event in posadas saw Nicolás Trosset claim victory, while Santiago Mallo triumphed in the TN race at the Autodromo Ciudad de Oberá.
Adding to the international flavor, Monte Carlo hosted the Women’s Faustball World Cup, welcoming eleven national teams and showcasing the province’s ability to host world-class events.
The year culminated with the Wakeboard Championship returning to Posadas,marking its eighth edition in the province. The event attracted national and international elite athletes, further solidifying Misiones’ reputation as a hub for exciting and innovative sports.
