The 12th Volant des Pyramides: A Badminton Triumph for La Grande-Motte
The 12th annual Volant des Pyramides badminton tournament, hosted by the La Grande-Motte Badminton Club (BCGM), was a resounding success, drawing over 200 athletes to the courts on December 14th and 15th. The event saw strong participation from local clubs in the Hérault and Gard regions, as well as competitors traveling from as far afield as Montauban, Toulon, and Grenoble, highlighting the tournament’s growing reputation.
The weekend featured a diverse range of competitions, including singles and mixed doubles on Saturday, followed by men’s and women’s doubles on Sunday. Seven courts within the Palais des Sports buzzed with activity,overseen by the experienced judge-arbitre Christophe Perrotez.
BCGM athletes shone brightly, securing 11 out of 20 podium positions across various skill levels. Nathalie Klotz dominated the women’s singles series 2 and,partnering with Marion Prône,clinched victory in the women’s doubles series 2. Other notable achievements included second-place finishes for Patrick michaud and Simon Sastre (men’s doubles series 3), Jennifer Mestre and Simon sastre (mixed doubles series 4), and Carine Daudu and Gilbert Vallez (mixed doubles series 5).
The BCGM’s success continued with third-place finishes for Angélique Gomez Z (women’s singles series 3), Jennifer Mestre (women’s doubles series 3), Aymeric Mazeas (men’s singles series 4), and several doubles pairings.
Beyond the competitive spirit, the tournament showcased a commitment to sustainability. In partnership with Compo’plumes, the BCGM collected used shuttlecocks for recycling into furniture and acoustic insulation, demonstrating a responsible approach to the sport.
