A Champion’s Return: An Interview with⁤ Cassie Sharpe

Welcome back to “In the Zone,” sports fans! Today, we ⁣have a very ⁣special‍ guest – Canadian freestyle skiing legend Cassie ‌Sharpe. Cassie, welcome to the show!

Cassie: thanks for having me!

Host: It’s an honor⁢ to have you. Let’s dive right in. This past weekend at Copper Mountain, ⁤you made a phenomenal comeback to the World Cup podium after a two-season hiatus. How‍ does it ⁤feel to be back on the podium, especially after becoming ⁢a mom?

Cassie: ⁣ To be ⁢honest, it’s surreal. Motherhood truly is a game changer, and juggling training with ‍caring for a little one has been a wild ride. Yet, being back on the podium, feeling that familiar rush of competition, it feels⁢ astonishing. It confirmes‍ that even with all‌ the changes, my⁢ heart still belongs⁢ on the halfpipe.

Host: It’s truly ⁣inspiring. ‍Many athletes face arduous decisions when starting⁣ a family. ⁢You exemplify the dedication required⁢ to excel in both worlds. To showcase‌ your resilience, you stood toe-to-toe with the formidable Eileen‌ Gu, who ultimately took gold. What was that contest like ⁤from your outlook?

Cassie: ‍Competing against Eileen is always a challenge. She’s an⁣ incredible athlete, pushing the boundaries of the sport with every run. It’s inspiring, even when she’s your competitor.

I went ⁤into that run knowing I had to give it my ‌all, put⁢ down the best trick combination I could, and leave ‌nothing on the table. While I wanted the ‍win, ‌sharing the podium with her and Zoe Atkins is a testament to the strong ⁣field we ⁣have in women’s freestyle skiing.

Host: Eileen ‍graciously ⁤mentioned how inspiring your‍ return has been for other female athletes. What message would you give to young girls aspiring to reach ‍the highest levels in⁢ freestyle skiing?

Cassie: ‌ My biggest message is to never give up on your dreams. There‍ will be challenges, setbacks,⁢ and moments when doubt creeps in, but always remember why ⁤you love this sport. For me, it’s the feeling of freedom, pushing my limits, and ⁤constantly learning new tricks. Surround yourself with a supportive team, believe in yourself, ⁢and never stop chasing your goals.

Host: Wise words, Cassie. As we congratulate you on this incredible achievement, we’re ‌left wondering – where do you see yourself going next? What are your goals for⁤ the rest of the season?

Cassie: I’m taking it one competition at a time, focusing on refining ⁣my runs and enjoying the journey. My eyes are definitely on the World Championships in Spain, but ⁤even⁣ more⁣ importantly, ⁣I want to continue‍ proving that it’s ‌possible to ⁤be both a dedicated athlete and a loving mother. I wouldn’t be here without the incredible support of my husband, family, and sponsors.

Host:We⁤ applaud your journey! Cassie Sharpe, thank⁢ you for taking the time to share ‌your story with us. your dedication and⁢ resilience are truly an inspiration. ⁤We wish you all the best for⁣ the rest ‌of the season!
