Obenstrohe Badminton Team Secures Spot in Championship Round
The TuS Obenstrohe badminton team achieved a remarkable feat, securing two crucial victories in the final round of the Kreisliga season. This remarkable performance propelled them into the championship round, set to commence in January, where they will compete for the coveted Kreisliga title.
Facing a must-win situation to qualify for the championship round, Obenstrohe, under the guidance of coach Werner krehl, delivered exceptional performances.Their first encounter pitted them against the higher-ranked SV Eintracht Oldenburg.
with both teams lacking a women’s doubles pairing, a draw was unfeasible. Eintracht’s absence of a fourth male player resulted in Obenstrohe automatically winning the second men’s doubles match. despite the unexpected 6-1 victory, the match was fiercely contested.
carsten Neumann was the only Obenstrohe player to taste defeat, losing his third singles match 14-21, 7-21. In contrast, Nicole Neuber dominated her singles match, winning 21-4, 21-10, while Guido Neuber secured a pleasant victory in the first men’s singles with scores of 21-11, 21-11. The mixed doubles duo of Hewerer/Neuber also triumphed, winning 21-19,21-8.
The second men’s singles match saw a thrilling battle between Wilko Bieder and Daniel Schneider, with Schneider ultimately forced to retire due to injury at a score of 23-23. The first men’s doubles match was equally intense. Neuber/Bieder initially controlled the match, winning the first set 21-16. However, they narrowly lost the second set 23-25 in a tie-breaker. They regained their composure in the deciding set, securing a 21-19 victory.
Obenstrohe’s second match against VfL Rastede II presented another challenge. Starting with a 0-1 deficit due to the absence of a women’s doubles team, Obenstrohe rallied with impressive performances.
Nicole Neuber dominated her singles match, winning 21-6, 21-4. Guido neuber (21-6, 21-9), Bieder (21-11, 21-9), the first men’s doubles pairing of Neuber/Bieder (21-9, 21-11), and the mixed doubles duo of Hewerer/Neuber (21-8, 21-6) all contributed to a resounding victory, propelling Obenstrohe to third place in the standings.
The championship round will feature a round-robin format over three match days, with VfL Edewecht, TV Cloppenburg III, TuS obenstrohe, and Oldenburger TB IV vying for the title.
While acknowledging their underdog status, Guido Neuber expressed the team’s determination to challenge the frontrunners. He emphasized the significance of participating in the championship round during the 50th anniversary of the TuS badminton department, making it a truly special occasion.
