Pacers Heating Up: A Conversation with Coach Jeff Van Gundy

Jeff Van Gundy: Thanks for having me. Always happy to talk basketball.
Well, Coach, let’s dive right in. The Pacers just demolished the Kings, 122-95, marking their fourth consecutive win. What jumped out at you from that game?
Jeff Van Gundy: First and foremost, the Pacers’ second-half adjustment was masterful. They came out with a renewed sense of urgency and dominated on both ends of the court. Seven players in double figures? that speaks volumes about their offensive balance and unselfishness.
Absolutely. Pascal Siakam led the way with 19 points, but Myles Turner chipped in 15, and the bench contributed significantly. That depth is going to be crucial as the season progresses.
jeff Van Gundy: You’re right. The Kings, conversely, seemed to lose their rhythm after halftime. Their shooting percentage dipped drastically, and they couldn’t contain the Pacers’ offensive onslaught.
Domantas Sabonis had a double-double for Sacramento, but it wasn’t enough to stop the bleeding. De’Aaron Fox struggled to find his shot consistency as well. What’s your take on the Kings’ current struggles?
Jeff Van Gundy: We’ve seen glimpses of their potential, but consistency seems to be their biggest hurdle. They need to find a way to string together victories and build momentum. This stretch of losses could be detrimental to their playoff aspirations.
Well said. This win puts the Pacers in a great spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Do you think they have what it takes to make a deep run this year?
Jeff Van Gundy: I wouldn’t count them out. They’re a young team with talent and a good coach in Rick Carlisle. They’re starting to gel at the right time. But the East is incredibly competitive this year–they’ll need to continue playing at a high level to secure a playoff berth.
