Soria Baloncesto Club Celebrates Another National Team Selection
Cerezo Joins Castilla y León Squad for Spanish Championship
Soria Baloncesto Club is brimming with pride as Luis Cerezo, a rising star from their M-audiovisuales A team, has been selected for the Castilla y León regional team competing in the Spanish Children’s National Team Championship. This prestigious tournament will take place in Huelva from January 3rd to 7th, marking a notable milestone for both Cerezo and the club. Cerezo’s selection continues a tradition of excellence for Soria Baloncesto, following in the footsteps of Hugo García (now playing in the CSB First Division) and Diego Valero (currently on the CSB cadet team), who also represented castilla y León in past championships. This achievement underscores the club’s commitment to nurturing young talent as its inception in 2015.
The Castilla y León squad, led by coach Iñaki Marro from Palencia, will convene in Santa Marta de Tomes (Salamanca) from December 26th to 29th for their final preparatory matches. The team boasts a diverse roster, with players hailing from León, Valladolid, Palencia, Salamanca, Segovia, and Zamora. In the First Phase of the Spanish Championship, castilla y León will face tough competition from Aragón and Cantabria in Group A. Earlier this month, the team participated in three pleasant matches in Oviedo (Asturias), securing victories against the hosts (77-32) and Galicia (78-65), while narrowly losing to the Basque Country (53-87).
Cerezo’s journey to the national stage began on May 1st with his selection for a 25-player concentration camp in Burgos. His notable performance earned him a spot in five subsequent training sessions, ultimately leading to his selection for the final twelve-player roster. Hailing from San Esteban de Gormaz, Cerezo is a rising star in his second year as a federated player. He played a pivotal role in the CSB team’s victory at the Castilla y León Children’s Cup in May and currently competes in the First Division Regional Championship. As the Spanish Championship approaches, Castilla y León is set to face off against the Canary Islands and Porto on Sunday, promising exciting matchups for basketball enthusiasts.
