Retirement did flicker thru my thoughts, but the thought of letting this injury dictate the end of my career felt unbearable. The joy I experience on the court, the thrill of competition, it’s woven into the fabric of who I am.
Moderator: You’ve set your sights on the 2026 European Championships,specifically its location in Spain. What makes this tournament so meaningful in your comeback plan?
Carolina Marin: [Smiles] It’s no secret that representing Spain is incredibly humbling and motivating. Having the European Championships on home soil, among my fans, my people, it’s a dream. That beacon on the horizon is fueling my rehabilitation every single day.

Carolina Marin: [Thoughtfully] I believe it comes down to an insatiable hunger to compete, to prove to myself, and to everyone else, that I can overcome anything.Badminton is my passion, my lifeblood. It’s more than just a sport to me; it’s a part of my identity.
Moderator: While your determination is admirable, there’s also the need for a measured approach. how are you balancing your desire to return with the crucial need for a meticulous rehabilitation process?
Carolina Marin: You’re absolutely right. Rushing back too soon could be detrimental, not only to my physical recovery but my long-term health as well. My team and I have a well-structured rehab plan. Right now, my focus is on strengthening my leg, regaining mobility, and gradually building up my fitness levels.
Moderator: You’ve achieved phenomenal success in your career – an Olympic gold, multiple World Championships, and an unprecedented seven consecutive European titles. What legacy do you hope to leave behind in the world of badminton?
Carolina Marin: [Reflective] my biggest hope is to inspire young athletes, especially young girls, to chase their dreams fearlessly, to never give up on achieving their goals. Badminton has given me so much, and I want to pay it forward, showing everyone that with hard work, dedication, and unwavering belief, anything is possible.
