Levallois Paris Saint-Cloud has bolstered its roster with the signing of experienced Spanish international Maria Schlegel. The 31-year-old, standing at an imposing 1.84 meters, makes the move from Romanian club Targoviste.
Marianne 92, the volleyball club, expressed their excitement, highlighting Schlegel’s “energy and exceptional talent” as key assets that will elevate the team’s performance this season.
Currently holding the third position in the championship, the reigning champions are determined to secure their first victory in the European Cup after a challenging start with four consecutive losses.

Before embarking on her professional volleyball journey in 2014, she showcased her athletic prowess in high-level track and field events, specializing in the triple jump and high jump. This diverse athletic background undoubtedly contributes to her exceptional skills on the volleyball court.
can Maria Schlegel Propel Levallois to European Glory?
Welcome back to Volleyball Insider. today’s guest is none other than three-time French National Champion and former international player, Jean-Paul Dupont.
Jean-Paul, thanks for joining us today.
Jean-Paul: It’s my pleasure to be here. I’ve been following Levallois paris Saint-Cloud’s season closely, so I’m keen to discuss this new signing.
Excellent! Levallois has just brought in Spanish international Maria Schlegel from Romania’s Targoviste. Given her experience and extraordinary track record, she looks like a solid addition. What are your initial thoughts?
Jean-Paul: I agree, Maria Schlegel is a fantastic acquisition for Levallois. She’s a strong player with proven skills, especially her receiving, as evidenced by her Golden League title last year. Honestly, they needed a boost in their receiving game, especially with those four consecutive losses in the European Cup.
Four losses to start the campaign are arduous. Do you think Schlegel alone can turn things around for them in Europe?
Jean-Paul: (Chuckles) That’s a tall order for any single player, even one as talented as Schlegel. It’s not just about individual brilliance; it’s about team chemistry and cohesion. Though, Schlegel brings a level of experience and leadership that can definitely galvanize the squad. She’s been ther and done that on the international stage, so her presence will be invaluable, both on and off the court.
Interesting point about leadership. Levallois are the reigning champions domestically, so they clearly have a strong core. Do you anticipate any challenges integrating Schlegel into an already established team?
Jean-Paul: Every team dynamic is different, but I don’t see any major obstacles. Schlegel seems like a team player based on what I’ve seen. Plus, Marianne 92, the club, has done a good job fostering a positive and welcoming environment. I think she’ll settle in quickly and contribute effectively.
We’ve mentioned her skills, but what about her background? It’s not every day you see a volleyball player who also competed in high-level track and field. Do you think that athletic background gives her an edge?
Jean-Paul: Absolutely! Track and field demands explosive power, agility, and coordination – qualities that are directly transferable to volleyball. Schlegel’s diverse athleticism almost certainly gives her an edge in terms of explosiveness and court coverage.
So, final thoughts? Can Maria Schlegel help Levallois Paris Saint-Cloud overcome their European struggles and achieve success on the continent?
Jean-Paul: It’s definitely possible. She’s a game-changer, and if she can click with the team, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them turn things around. They still have a lot of season left, and with Schlegel’s firepower, anything is absolutely possible.
Exciting times for Levallois fans! Thanks for your insight, Jean-Paul.
