Arcieri Bizantini Shine at Cotignola Tournaments
The Arcieri Bizantini archery team enjoyed a triumphant weekend at the Cotignola tournaments, showcasing their talent and dedication across various age categories.
on November 30th, the “Second Bizantino Youth Tournament” saw the team’s young archers excel.Nicola Barlotti secured a gold medal and a personal best score of 520 points in the RM OL category, while Diego Dalla Costa achieved an impressive 8th place with 375 points. The female archers, though missing individual podium finishes, achieved remarkable personal milestones. Margherita Turci surpassed the 500-point mark with a score of 501, securing 7th place, closely followed by Nicole Morrongiello in 8th place with 456 points. Elena Bertazzini finished in 10th place with 298 points. The team’s collective effort earned them a silver medal with a combined score of 1255, securing their spot in the upcoming Italian Championships.
The youngest archers in the Giovanissimi category also demonstrated their prowess, claiming three individual medals and a team gold. Michelangelo Merengo clinched the gold medal with 235 points, followed by Anna Maria Schengelia’s silver medal with 408 points and Noemi della rocca’s bronze medal with 367 points. Sara Baldini secured 4th place with 330 points,while Emily Bazzocchi finished in 5th place with 151 points. The trio of Anna Maria, Noemi, and Sara further solidified their success by winning the team gold medal with a combined score of 1105.
The following day, December 1st, saw the senior and master archers take center stage at the “53rd Bizantino Tournament.” Sofia Fuschini and Marcello Tozzola dominated the OL category,securing gold medals with impressive scores of 540 and 557 points respectively. In the barebow category, the Arcieri Bizantini achieved a remarkable triple podium finish in the master category. Marcello Tozzola,Massimo Venturi,and Simone Pizzi secured gold,silver,and bronze medals respectively,with scores of 527,518,and 510 points.Their combined effort also earned them the team gold medal with a score of 1555.
The senior category witnessed a double podium finish for the Arcieri Bizantini. Michele Baroncini and Denis Costantini claimed silver and bronze medals with scores of 528 and 468 points respectively. The trio of Baroncini, Costantini, and Ruma further cemented their success by winning the team gold medal with a score of 1400. The female archers in the master category also made their mark, with Sabrina Bandini securing the silver medal with 474 points and Angela Padovani claiming the bronze medal with 465 points.

This weekend, the Italian archery scene was set ablaze with the remarkable performance of the Arcieri Bizantini team at the Cotignola tournaments. Let’s start with your stunning performance in the OL category, securing gold with an notable 557 points? What was going through your mind as you stepped up to the shooting line?
Marcello: Honestly, it’s all about focus. I don’t think about scores or comparisons. I visualize each shot, concentrate on my technique, and trust the countless hours of training.
Speaking of training, the Arcieri Bizantini consistently show exceptional teamwork, consistently securing team gold medals across categories. What makes this team so special?
Marcello: We’re like a family, truly. We support each other, push each other to improve, and celebrate each other’s successes. we also have remarkable coaches who create a positive and motivating surroundings.
You not only dominated the individual category but also claimed a gold medal with massimo Venturi and Simone Pizziin the Barebow Master category,a truly remarkable feat. How does it feel to achieve this triple podium finish as a team?
Marcello: It’s even more fulfilling than individual success! knowing we achieved this together, supporting each other every step of the way, is incredibly motivating.
Many young archers, like Nicola Barlotti, who secured gold in the RM OL category at the “Second Bizantino Youth Tournament”, are clearly inspired by the success of senior archers like yourself. what advice would you give to aspiring young archers?
Marcello: Dedication and perseverance are key. Archery is a sport of precision and mental strength. Embrace the challenges, learn from your mistakes, and never stop striving to improve.
The Arcieri Bizantini have secured a spot in the upcoming Italian Championships. What are your expectations for the team, and what are your personal goals?
Marcello: We’re going in strong! Our aim is to continue this winning streak and represent our club with pride.Personally? I’m always looking to improve my performance and hopefully add another gold to my collection.
