“To be selected as one of the five officials for a final, you need to have had an outstanding tournament,” Desroches emphasizes. “You must be among the top five officials at that particular event, and theoretically, among the best in the world, especially at the World Championships.”
Desroches himself experienced the thrill of officiating at the Rio 2016 Olympics, serving as a service judge during the final match between Spain’s Carolina Marín and India’s P.V.sindhu.
