Jens Voigt: Thanks for having me. It’s always sad to lose a member of the cycling family.

Jens Voigt: He was a tough competitor, that’s for sure. Always giving it his all. A natural climber with a real fighter’s spirit. The way he attacked on those mountain stages, it was inspiring.
Moderator: but as you know, Hervé’s career was also marred by the Festina scandal. He was implicated alongside many other prominent riders, a dark chapter for cycling. How do you reconcile these contrasting sides of his career?
Jens Voigt: That Festina scandal was a terrible time for the sport. It cast a shadow over everything, and many riders were caught up in it. I always believed Pascal when he said he regretted his actions and was remorseful. it doesn’t excuse what happened, but it’s important to remember that people can make mistakes, and hopefully learn from them.
Moderator: That’s a thoughtful perspective, Jens. In the years after the scandal, Hervé seemed to find a new path, transitioning into coaching and mentoring younger riders. He even moved to Quebec to work with the Garneau-Québecor team. What does that tell you about his character?
Jens voigt: It shows his love for cycling never faded. He wanted to give back to the sport he loved,even after the turmoil he went through. He was a good teammate, always supportive, and I’m sure he passed that passion on to the younger generation.
