For twenty years, the MLP Cup has been a highlight of the sporting calendar, kicking off the year with world-class tennis at the Center for Active Prevention in Nußloch. This prestigious event attracts over sixty ATP-ranked players from more than ten countries, transforming the tranquil town on Bergstrasse into a regional tennis mecca every January.
The tournament, organized by GSM Gesellschaft für Sportmanagement mbH, is more than just a sporting spectacle. It’s an prospect to express gratitude to the numerous sponsors and advertisers who make this event possible.
Beyond the thrilling matches on three adjacent courts,the MLP Cup offers a vibrant atmosphere for tennis enthusiasts,media representatives,and dedicated supporters who have contributed to the tournament’s success as its inception in 2004. Special recognition goes to MLP SE for their unwavering support throughout the years.
The Center for Active Prevention provides an intimate setting for approximately 500 spectators to witness intense battles for ATP ranking points. This unique venue, arguably the most gorgeous tennis hall in the region, has hosted a parade of future stars.
Who could have predicted that the young Frenchman who fought his way through qualification in 2004, earning his first ATP point at just seventeen, would become the globally recognized Gael Monfils?
The MLP Cup has witnessed the rise of numerous tennis luminaries, including former world number seven and Wimbledon semi-finalist Mario ancic, two-time MLP Cup champion and Davis Cup finalist Ruben Bemelmans, and German stars Mischa Zverev, Daniel Brands (who famously defeated Roger Federer in Gstaad in 2013), and Philipp Petzschner, a multiple Grand Slam doubles champion.
German Davis Cup players Jan-Lennard Struff (a two-time MLP Cup finalist), martin Sinner, andreas Beck, Max marterer, and crowd favourite Daniel Masur, the only player to successfully defend his MLP Cup title, have all graced the courts.
In 2017, the MLP Cup was honored as the best tournament in the German Master Series, a testament to its quality and impact. Witnessing Botic van der Zandschulp, the 2022 MLP Cup champion, compete against Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon’s Centre Court in 2022 was a powerful reminder of the tournament’s significance.
