Spiking Up Lanzarote: an Interview with badminton Legend Carla Marin
Lanzarote is about to witness a badminton boom, and we’re here to break it down with legendary spanish badminton player Carla Marin. Carla, a three-time national champion and current youth coach, joins us to discuss the groundbreaking Badminton Clinic hosted by the Auria Badminton Club on January 11th.
Welcome, carla. It’s fantastic to have your insights on this exciting development for Lanzarote’s badminton scene.
Carla: Thank you. It’s truly wonderful to see initiatives like this popping up. It shows a real commitment to nurturing young talent and elevating the sport’s profile.
Absolutely. The clinic is structured to cater to various skill levels, with specialized training in both singles and doubles. As a seasoned competitor and coach, what do you see as the importance of this tailored approach?
Carla:
that’s crucial. Badminton is a game of strategy, finesse, and physical prowess. Having players train in smaller, skill-matched groups allows for more individualized feedback and targeted practice. Whether it’s refining a smash technique for advanced players or mastering basic footwork fundamentals for beginners, this personalized approach is invaluable.
The clinic also distinguishes itself by incorporating a workshop led by sports psychologist Roberto siverio, focusing on supporting young athletes.Do you think this emphasis on mental coaching is as essential as the physical training?
Carla:
It’s absolutely essential, and I’m thrilled to see it being prioritized.Badminton can be incredibly demanding, both physically and mentally. The pressure to perform, handle setbacks, and maintain focus throughout a match can be immense. Having access to support that equips young athletes with mental tools for resilience and confidence-building is a game-changer.
That resonates deeply. It’s encouraging to see a more holistic approach to athlete development. What advice would you give to aspiring badminton players in Lanzarote who are considering attending this clinic?
carla:
Go for it! This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from experienced coaches, improve your skills, and connect with fellow badminton enthusiasts. Don’t be intimidated by your skill level; there’s something valuable to be gained at every stage. And remember, have fun. Badminton is an exhilarating sport, enjoy the process and the challenge.
Wonderful words of encouragement, Carla. We’re excited to see the impact of this inaugural clinic and watch the growth of badminton in Lanzarote.
