Cuban Baseball Prospect Andy Martin Joins FEPCUBE Roster
The Cuban Professional Baseball Federation (FEPCUBE) is gearing up for its return to the field, and the roster is already taking shape. The latest addition is outfielder andy Martin, younger brother of former MLB player Leonys Martin. FEPCUBE announced Martin’s signing on social media on January 6th, 2025.
Martin, a 24-year-old from Villa Clara, Cuba, brings valuable experience from his time in Japan. In 2024, he played 33 games for the Chiba Lotte Marines’ second team in the Eastern League, achieving a .278 batting average with 10 runs scored and 8 RBIs. He also showcased his power with seven doubles and a home run, while demonstrating his speed by stealing three bases.
Prior to his stint in Japan, Martin was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 36th round of the 2019 MLB Draft. However, he opted to pursue his collegiate baseball career instead. He later joined the Ibaraki Astro Planet in the independent Baseball Challenge League (BCL), where he hit .216 with nine RBIs and three home runs, including a grand slam.This will be Martin’s second appearance with FEPCUBE. He previously played in a amiable match against the Miami Dade College Sharks on January 17, 2024, alongside his brother leonys. The Cubans emerged victorious in that closely contested game, winning 3-2.
Martin is a versatile player who can cover all three outfield positions. His speed is a notable asset, both on the basepaths and in the field, where his swift reflexes make him a reliable defender. Standing at 6’2″ and weighing 209 pounds, Martin is a physically imposing presence.
FEPCUBE’s upcoming friendly match against the Miami Dade College Sharks is scheduled for January 18, 2025, at 12:30 PM at the Kendall Campus Baseball Field.Fans can arrive 30 minutes early to secure their seats and witness Martin’s return to the field.
