Hidalgo Judo: navigating Change in 2025 – An Insider’s Viewpoint with Coach Carmen Garcia
Welcome back, fight fans! Today we have the pleasure of speaking with Coach Carmen Garcia,a pillar of the Hidalgo judo community for over two decades. Coach Garcia has seen it all, from the triumphs to the challenges, and her insights are invaluable as Hidalgo judo prepares for a dynamic 2025.
coach Garcia, thank you for taking the time to chat with us today. 2025 promises to be a year of change and growth for Hidalgo judo. Let’s dive right in. The remodeling of the CEDHAR is undoubtedly important. how do you see this impacting athletes’ training routines and readiness?
Coach Garcia: “Well, change is never easy, especially when it comes to an athlete’s routine. The CEDHAR has been our home base for years, and any disruption to that base can be unsettling. But I commend Veronica Gonzalez Pasten and the association for taking a proactive approach, collaborating with Inhide to secure alternative training spaces. Continuity is key, and it’s vital to minimize disruptions as much as possible. we must ensure our athletes are supported through this transition and have access to the facilities they need to thrive.”
Absolutely.
the national Technical Judo Congress in Mazatlan is right around the corner. What are your expectations for this event, and what impact do you think it will have on our local athletes and coaches?
Coach Garcia: “The Mazatlan Congress is always a highlight on the calendar. It’s an astounding chance for professional advancement, a chance for our coaches to learn from leading figures in judo and bring back valuable knowledge to hidalgo. For athletes, it’s inspiring to witness top-level judo firsthand and network with peers from across the country. We need to encourage our athletes to soak up every bit of knowledge they can at these events, as it will undoubtedly elevate their game.”
The state selection trials for the Conade National Games are quickly approaching. What competitive spirit are you witnessing amongst the Hidalgo judokas, and who are some athletes to watch out for?
Coach Garcia: “Competition is fierce,as always. Hidalgo boasts a pool of incredibly talented judokas, and everyone is hungry for a spot on the Conade team. I’ve seen incredible dedication and commitment in training, and the energy is electric. It’s challenging to single out specific athletes, as we have promising talents in all weight classes. However, keep your eye on young Maria rodriguez and veteran Miguel Sanchez. They’re both capable of achieving great things.”
The dates for the Tomoyoshi Yamaguchi Tournament and the macro-regional competitions remain uncertain. How do you think these postponements will affect the athletes’ training and preparation?
Coach Garcia: “Uncertainty is never ideal, especially when athletes thrive on structure and a clear roadmap. These postponements could possibly disrupt training schedules and make it harder to peak at the right time. However, our athletes are resilient. We’ll adapt. We’ll adjust training plans, focus on what we can control, and make the most of any opportunity to compete.”
Coach Garcia, you’ve touched upon the importance of resilience and adaptability. What is your message to the young judoka coming up through the ranks, especially in the face of these challenges?
Coach Garcia: “My message is simple: never stop striving, never stop learning, and never lose sight of your passion for this incredible sport. Judo teaches us discipline, perseverance, and respect. These qualities will guide you both on and off the mat.
Embrace the challenges, learn from every experience, and always remember that the judo community is here to support you.”
