The 8th annual Saint-Nolff National Tournament is set to welcome 550 participants this weekend, with a strong contingent of local talent. Among them is Rémy Goubin, a dedicated member of the Saint-Nolff club as 2018. Competing in Série 1, Goubin, ranked 7th in the tournament, faces a challenging field.”My goal is to advance past the group stage,” Goubin, 26, shared. “It’s going to be tough competition, but I’m resolute to go as far as possible and represent the club to the best of my ability.” A regular participant in the singles category, Goubin, while yet to clinch victory, considers the tournament a valuable experience.
Beyond his individual aspirations, Goubin is also a key member of the Saint-Nolff team competing in the prénationale (PNF) league. “We’re having a solid season,” he remarked. “A recent loss has set us back slightly, but we’re not giving up. We’re focused on winning our upcoming matches to secure promotion or at least maintain our position in the league.”
Goubin’s weekend will be a busy one. After competing in the singles and mixed doubles on Saturday, he plans to dedicate Sunday to supporting the tournament as a volunteer.

Rémy Goubin:
“Thanks for having me! I’m definitely excited, but it’s a mix of nerves and anticipation.Série 1 is super competitive, and being ranked 7th adds a bit of pressure, but I’m looking at this as a huge possibility to learn and grow.
My main goal is to push past the group stage. It won’t be easy, but I’m resolute to put everything out there and represent Saint-Nolff to the best of my ability.”
That’s the spirit! You’ve mentioned consistently participating in the singles category. What draws you to this particular format?
Rémy Goubin:
“I love the intensity of singles. It’s a test of pure willpower and strategy. you’re completely responsible for your wins and losses, which can be both liberating and challenging. It pushes you to be your absolute best physically and mentally. “
Absolutely. And you also play a vital role on the club’s prénationale (PNF) league team. How do you balance these individual and team commitments? Is the recent setback impacting your approach going into the tournament?
Rémy Goubin:
“Juggling them is definitely a challenge, but I thrive on that kind of pressure. The team always comes first; we support each other and push each other to improve.
That recent loss was a tough blow, but it’s also a reminder that we can’t get complacent. We’re focused on regrouping, refining our strategies, and coming back stronger in the upcoming matches. Our goal is promotion, and we’re going to fight tooth and nail to achieve it.”
That’s unbelievable team spirit! You mentioned earlier that, beyond winning, you see these competitions as valuable experiences. Can you elaborate on what you gain from these tournaments, even if you don’t clinch the top spot?
Rémy Goubin:
“Every tournament, win or lose, is a learning curve. You face different playing styles, different challenges, and you discover your own strengths and weaknesses.
It’s all about constant advancement.
Competing against the best pushes me to elevate my game. It’s about refining my technique, improving my mental fortitude, and learning to adapt.”

It’s only right that I give back.Volunteering allows me to nurture the sport,support newer players,and be part of the bigger badminton community. Plus, it’s incredibly rewarding to see the next generation of players thrive.”
