Danish Badminton Championships: antonsen Secures Third Consecutive Title
the 2019 Danish Badminton Championships saw a dominant performance from Anders Antonsen, who clinched his third consecutive national title. The 21-year-old Aarhus native defeated Steffen Rasmussen in a decisive two-set final, 21-14, 21-10.
Antonsen, fresh off his victory at the Indonesia Masters and currently a professional badminton player, showcased his superior skills throughout the match. While Rasmussen displayed moments of brilliance and consistent play, Antonsen’s superior physical conditioning proved to be the deciding factor, particularly in the longer rallies.
“I’m incredibly happy to achieve this hat-trick,” Antonsen shared with TV2 Sport. He acknowledged Rasmussen’s fighting spirit, stating, “He took some chances and gave it his all.”
Other Notable Results:
The women’s singles final was a thrilling three-set battle between Line Kjærsfeldt and Mia Blichfeldt. Kjærsfeldt, who previously won the title in 2015 and 2016, overcame an initial setback, losing the first set 8-21. She rallied back with impressive consistency, securing the next two sets 21-16 to claim her third national championship.
In the doubles competitions, julie Finne-Ipsen and Claudia paredes emerged victorious in the women’s doubles, defeating alexandra Bøje and Sara Lundgaard. The men’s doubles title went to Lasse Mølhede and Mathias Bay-Smidt, who triumphed over David Daugaard and Frederik Søgaard.
Double Gold for Bay-Smidt:
mathias Bay-Smidt was the only player to secure two gold medals at the championships. Partnering with Rikke Søby in the mixed doubles, they defeated Mathias christiansen and Christinna Pedersen in a closely contested final, 21-15, 21-19.
Awards Ceremony:
the final day of the championships also saw the proclamation of the 2018 Badminton Player of the Year award, which went to the reigning men’s doubles champions, Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup. The duo had a remarkable year in 2018,winning the China Open,European Championship,and Danish Championship. Unfortunately, Astrup was sidelined due to injury and the pair did not participate in this year’s tournament.
The 2018 Badminton Comet award was presented to 19-year-old Line Christophersen, who achieved a silver medal at the Junior World Championships last year.

Line: It’s my pleasure! Thank you for having me.

Line, yoru victories in 2015, 2016, and now, 2019 are nothing short of remarkable. This year’s final against Mia Blichfeldt was notably tense, with you dropping the first set. Can you walk us through your mindset during that turning point?
Line: Absolutely! Mia is a phenomenal player, and she came out strong.I knew I had to stay calm and adjust my game plan. Losing the first set was a setback, but it fueled my determination. I focused on my strengths, improved my shot selection, and pushed myself harder in those longer rallies.
Moderator: That’s the spirit of a true champion! Many spectators were captivated by the ferocity of your rallies,especially in the second and third sets. What would you say were the key factors that contributed to your eventual triumph?
Line:
I beleive consistency was key. Mia is known for her aggressive style, but I managed to keep the rallies going, making her chase the shuttle. My physical conditioning definately played a role, as I felt strong throughout the match. Mentally, I tried to stay focused on each point, blocking out the pressure and trusting my abilities.
Moderator:
That’s fascinating.On a different note the tournament also saw Anders Antonsen secure his third consecutive men’s singles title. What are your thoughts on his performance and his dominance in Danish badminton?
Line:
Anders is an exceptional player, there’s no doubt whatsoever. His power and precision are remarkable. It’s amazing to witness his dedication and progress year after year. He’s a great example for younger players and is definitely on track to achieve great things internationally.
Moderator:
We can’t forget Mathias Bay-Smidt’s impressive double gold wins, both in men’s doubles and mixed doubles. Do you see him becoming a future leader in Danish badminton?
Line:
Without a doubt! Mathias is a talented and versatile player.
he’s naturally gifted, but his work ethic is equally impressive. He’s always striving to improve, and his partnerships with both Lasse Mølhede and Rikke Søby are incredibly strong. He’s definitely one to watch for future championships.
Moderator:
Absolutely! Looking ahead, what are your goals for the rest of the year? Any particular tournaments you are focusing on?
Line: I’m taking things one step at a time. I want to maintain my fitness and focus on improving all aspects of my game.
The European and World Championships are on my radar, and of course, I’ll be competing in various international tournaments to gain experience and build momentum for the upcoming season.
