Ángel: Absolutely. While judo does involve physicality, its core philosophy centers around respect, discipline, and self-improvement. On the mat,we learn to control our bodies and our emotions,channeling our energy in a positive direction. The camaraderie within the Guatemalan Judo Federation is incredible; we support each other,celebrate victories together,and learn from our setbacks as a community.It’s like an extended family.

Ángel: Hard work and dedication are key. Judo demands constant training,both physical and mental. It requires pushing your boundaries, testing your limits, and never giving up. My coaches have been invaluable, guiding my technique and pushing me to be my best.
Moderator: You mentioned overcoming fear of facing opponents. That’s a hurdle many athletes face,irrespective of their sport. How do you personally address that fear?
Ángel: it’s a constant battle, to be honest. But I’ve learned that fear is often born from the unknown.
The more I train, the more I understand my opponents’ techniques and my own strengths. I focus on the fundamentals, respect my opponent, and trust in my training. Remember, “When we fall, we have to get up.” That applies to judo and to life.
