The prestigious Coët-Roz circuit, a cornerstone of French cyclo-cross, will host the championships for the seventh time sence its inception at the dawn of the 20th century. This historic venue has witnessed countless epic duels and will undoubtedly provide a fitting stage for this year’s showdown.

With six national titles to his name, including the last two consecutive victories, venturini enters as the clear favorite. However, the Dubau brothers, joshua and Lucas, pose a serious challenge. Clash of Titans: A Look ahead at the French Cyclo-Cross Championships with Marie-Christine Millet
Joining us today is cyclo-cross cycling legend and former World Champion, Marie-Christine Millet. Marie-Christine, welcome to the show!
Marie-Christine: It’s great to be here!
Moderator: This Sunday sees the culmination of the French cyclo-cross championships at the historic Coët-Roz circuit in Pontchâteau. The atmosphere is always electric ther, especially with the men’s and women’s elite races taking place. What are your thoughts on the upcoming races?
Marie-Christine: Pontchâteau is a truly special venue. The history, the atmosphere, it’s everythingCyclo-cross should be. I’m notably excited to see the men’s race this year. Clément Venturini is a powerhouse, aiming for his third consecutive title. Can he be stopped? The Dubau brothers, Joshua and Lucas, are definitely his biggest threats.
Moderator: Definitely a David versus Goliath situation! Venturini has been dominant, but those Dubau brothers are hungry and gaining ground. Joshua nearly dethroned Venturini last year, coming in second. Is there a chance he can go one better this time?
Marie-Christine: I wouldn’t count Joshua out, absolutely not. He’s shown he can hang with the best, and Lucas isn’t far behind. This could be a tactical battle, with the brothers perhaps working together to disrupt Venturini’s rhythm.
Moderator: Smart strategy!
We can’t forget the women’s race. Hélène Clauzel is going for her third consecutive championship, a remarkable feat. It takes immense dedication and mental strength to achieve that level of dominance.
Marie-Christine: Indeed it does.Hélène is in top form, but I wouldn’t say it’s a guaranteed win. This year’s field looks stronger than ever, and several younger riders are looking to make their mark. It wouldn’t surprise me to see an upset. The pressure is on Visture to defend her title, will she crumble, or rise to the occasion?
Moderator: That’s the beauty of sport, isn’t it? The unscripted drama and unexpected twists! You mentioned a younger generation coming through. Who do you think these rising stars are?
Marie-Christine: Keep an eye on riders like Perrine Clauzel, Hélène’s sister. She’s been making steady progress and has the talent to challenge for the podium. There’s also Agathe Peczalski who has had some extraordinary results recently. These young women exemplify the exciting future of French cyclo-cross.
Moderator: It’s fantastic to see the depth of talent in women’s cyclo-cross.
marie-Christine, you’ve witnessed the evolution of cyclo-cross over your career. What are the biggest changes you’ve seen in the sport, particularly in the past decade?
Marie-Christine: The sport has definitely become more professional, with dedicated
training programs, better equipment, and increased media exposure. It’s great to see the sport gaining more recognition. The racing itself has become even more tactical and intense, and the level of competition across the board has risen significantly.
Moderator: It’s certainly a sport on the rise. Well Marie-Christine, thanks so much for sharing your insights with us. I know our readers will be eagerly awaiting the championships on Sunday. Any final predictions before we let you go?
Marie-Christine: In the men’s race, I think it will be a close one, but I’m going to give the edge to Venturini. He knows how to win at Pontchâteau, but the Dubau brothers will certainly push him all the way. As for the women’s race, Hélène clauzel is the favorite, but she’s bound to get some serious competition from the growing generation of young riders. It’s going to be a thrilling weekend of cyclo-cross!
