Teh Finnish team of Suvi Minkkinen and Tero Seppala claimed a historic victory in the single mixed relay at the Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof, Germany on Saturday. [[1]] Benefiting from unusually sunny conditions, the pair secured thier first win in this non-Olympic event, edging out the strong French duo of Paula Botet and Quentin Fillon Maillet.
Fillon Maillet, fresh off his sprint victory on Friday, delivered a flawless performance on shot N.6, setting up botet, who had also triumphed in Thursday’s sprint, for a strong finish. Entering the final two laps, the French team trailed the Germans by a mere 3 seconds, while the Finns sat in third, 12 seconds behind.
In a thrilling final standing shot, Botet executed a clean sweep, but Minkkinen matched her precision, leaving the shooting range 3 seconds ahead. Despite a valiant effort, Botet was unable to close the gap, ultimately securing a silver medal for France.
