A Day of Triumph: Sihltal Judo Club Celebrates its Young Champions
The judo Club Sihltal (JCS) concluded its 2024 tournament year with a resounding success, hosting the JCS Club Championships and the Wednesday Tournament awards ceremony on November 23rd. While initial registration numbers where lower than anticipated, the event was brimming with enthusiasm and camaraderie.
Twenty-two young judokas took to the mat, eager to showcase their skills and sportsmanship. To ensure fair and engaging competition, the participants were divided into five groups, with a sixth group formed to accommodate a single, larger participant. This thoughtful approach prioritized both safety and inclusivity, allowing every child to experience the thrill of competition.
The tournament format emphasized participation and learning. Each judoka within a group faced off against every other member, guaranteeing a minimum of three matches per child. This structure maximized opportunities for practice and submission of learned techniques.
The atmosphere was electric as the matches commenced. With all fights taking place on a single mat, spectators enjoyed an up-close view of the action, cheering on the young athletes. national referee B expertly officiated the matches, ensuring fairness and adherence to judo principles.
Following the exciting bouts, the award ceremony commenced. Each group’s winners were announced, culminating in the presentation of medals to all participants by the club’s President. A well-deserved Grittibänz and chocolate stick provided a sweet reward for the competitors and their supporters.
The highlight of the day was the declaration of the Wednesday Tournament rankings. A total of 84 young judokas had participated in the four tournaments held throughout the year. The anticipation built as the top rankings were revealed, culminating in a thrilling podium finish for Sophie Pfeffer (3rd place), Tim Rohner (2nd place), and Kira Okhrimenko (1st place). the top three received diplomas, a generous Toblerone, cinema vouchers, and Kira was presented with a trophy.
The Judo Club Sihltal extends its heartfelt congratulations to all participants and expresses gratitude to the dedicated trainers, volunteers, and families who make these events possible.
Looking ahead, the club encourages all young judokas to mark their calendars for the 2025 Wednesday Tournaments: January 29th, May 14th, September 24th, and November 5th. Every participation earns valuable points, so join the competition and strive for your personal best!
