From February 15th to 16th, Plaza Moreno will transform into a bustling hub of cultural immersion, celebrating the Year of the Wood Snake.This free, two-day extravaganza, hailed as the largest Chinese event on the continent [1], promises a captivating blend of tradition, entertainment, and culinary delights.
Prepare to be mesmerized by over 50 stage performances featuring renowned Chinese artists, alongside local talent showcasing their skills. Foodies can explore the diverse offerings of CUGA (Urban Gastronomic Circuit), while artisan enthusiasts can browse the unique creations at the Manos Platenses fair.
This year’s celebration introduces the thrilling Martial Arts Meeting, bringing together over 25 schools from the region to showcase traditional Chinese disciplines like Kung Fu and Tai Chi, alongside other Asian martial arts such as Taekwondo, Karate, and Judo.
The main stage will come alive with vibrant performances,including the traditional Chinese Lions and Dragons,whose captivating Pupil Nailing Ceremony is said to bring prosperity and good fortune.
Beyond the martial arts spectacle, attendees can enjoy the elegance of the Imperial chinese Fashion Show, the grace of traditional Chinese dances, and the infectious energy of K-Pop performances by local schools.Adding to the musical tapestry, the event will feature Along, a rising star in Chinese Pop, and the social media sensation, Chinese Foursome [2]. The internationally acclaimed Tango for Peace company will also grace the stage, showcasing the beauty of Argentine tango with a Chinese twist.
To cap off each night, local bands and DJs will take the stage, ensuring a lively and unforgettable experience for all.
Last year’s celebration drew an impressive crowd of 280,000 people, who enjoyed over 25 shows and explored more than 150 stalls showcasing the talents of gastronomic entrepreneurs and artisans.
This spectacular event is a collaborative effort by the Foundation for Human Life, the Municipality of La Plata, the Cultural Institute of the Province of Buenos Aires, the Association of Chinese Merchants of La Plata, the Guangdong Chamber of Commerce in Argentina, the Confederation of Chinese Commercial Chambers of the Argentine Republic, and the mei Hua School.
