The Matex Marabadminton team continued its impressive winning streak this weekend,securing a resounding 4-1 victory over reigning champions BC Milano in the Italian Badminton Championships. This triumph follows yesterday’s decisive wins against Modena and Chiari, marking a perfect start to the Serie A season.
Held in Malles, Alto Adige, this first championship concentration saw the Sardinian squad seeking revenge for their loss to BC Milano in last year’s Serie A finals. The Marabadminton team delivered a powerful performance, showcasing their dominance in the men’s and women’s doubles, as well as the mixed doubles.
New acquisitions Lea Palermo and Julien Maio proved instrumental in securing victory, displaying exceptional skill and winning all their matches. The singles matches were more closely contested. Danish player Husher Ruus clinched the women’s singles for Marabadminton, overcoming Italian champion Emma Piccinin in a thrilling comeback. BC Milano earned their sole point through Fabio Caponio, who defeated reigning Italian champion Christopher Vittoriani in straight sets.
With 15 points, Matex Marabadminton currently sits in second place, trailing only Bolzano, who also boasts a perfect record but holds a superior set difference.The next championship concentration is scheduled for February 8th and 9th in Chiari, with the third round taking place in Maracalagonis.

Lina: “Wow, it’s incredible to see the fire back in the Sardinian squad! They were absolutely relentless against BC Milano. Their new acquisitions, Palermo and Maio, were phenomenal, contributing significantly to their victories. This win wasn’t just about individual brilliance, though. That’s a great point,lina. Their tenacity in both the men’s and women’s doubles was certainly impressive. The singles matches were much tighter, though – Husher Ruus’s comeback win against Emma Piccinin was a real nail-biter!

Lina: “I wouldn’t underestimate them. The fact that they rallied together after last year’s disappointing loss to BC Milano speaks volumes about their determination. They’ve clearly addressed some weaknesses, and the infusion of new talent has invigorated the squad. They’ll definitely push Bolzano all the way. This championship is shaping up to be a real race to the finish.”
