Arrows Fly high at the Velay Archers’ Annual tournament
The 1st Velay Archers Company hosted their highly anticipated annual archery competition this past weekend, drawing in a remarkable 123 archers eager to test their skills. The event was a resounding success, showcasing remarkable performances and fostering a strong sense of community among archery enthusiasts.Throughout the competition, participants showcased their prowess across various categories, their dedication and passion for the sport evident in every shot. The atmosphere was electric with enthusiastic cheers and a spirit of camaraderie that underscored the shared love for archery.
A highlight of the tournament was Philippe Galtier’s record-breaking performance in the Barebow category. Representing the Velay Archers Club, Galtier shattered the departmental record, raising the bar from 529 to an impressive 540 points out of a possible 600.
For those eager to witness more thrilling archery action, mark your calendars for Sunday, January 26th. The departmental finals, featuring the region’s top archers, will take place at the Salle des orgues. The morning will be dedicated to selections, followed by intense final rounds in the afternoon.

Carole: It’s a pleasure to be here.
I understand you were closely following the recent velay Archers Company annual tournament. What were your thoughts on the event?
Carole: It’s always fantastic to see such a large turnout for local archery tournaments. One hundred and twenty-three archers is a testament to the growing popularity of the sport.
And that brings me to Philippe Galtier’s phenomenal performance! To shatter the departmental record in Barebow, that’s no mean feat! What do you think contributed to his success?
Carole: Philippe is an exceptional archer. His focus and mental fortitude are as notable as his skill.But to achieve a score like that, you also need meticulous practice and technique. It’s a combination of factors that leads to such groundbreaking performances.
Agreeing wholeheartedly! now, speaking of technique, many argue that the Barebow discipline is one of the purest forms of archery. Do you share this outlook?
Carole: Absolutely. There’s a certain rawness and primal connection to archery in Barebow.You’re relying solely on your ability to judge distance,windage,and execute the shot with precision. There are no modern conveniences to rely on, just you and the bow.

Carole, with the departmental finals approaching on January 26th, what advice would you give to the archers competing for a spot on the regional team?
Carole: Pressure can be a double-edged sword. My advice is to focus on the process. Trust your training, concentrate on each shot individually, and don’t get caught up in the outcome. Remember, enjoying the process is just as important as winning.
