Welcome back too Hockey Hotline, folks! Today, we’re joined by a legend of the game, a former SHL Champion and two-time Stanley Cup winner: Peter “Foppa” Forsberg. Peter, thanks for joining us.
Peter Forsberg: Thanks for having me. Always happy to talk hockey.
Perfect timing, Peter. We’re hot on the heels of a major announcement - Lucas Elvenes is heading to Växjö Lakers! What are your thoughts on this move?
PF: Elvenes is a fantastic talent, no doubt. Leaving Leksand after a solid run shows his ambition. Växjö clearly means buisness, bringing in both him and Eemili Suomi – their offense will be a force to be reckoned with.
It’s a reunion for Elvenes and Björn Hellkvist, too. Having played under Hellkvist myself, I know the kind of impact he can have.
PF: Absolutely. That partnership is crucial. Hellkvist gets the best out of his players. He understands Elvenes’ game, and that trust will be invaluable come playoff time.
Växjö has consistently been in contention, but that Le Mat Trophy has eluded them. Do you think elvenes is the missing piece?
PF: He’s certainly a massive addition. Buthockey is a team sport. Växjö needs everyone firing on all cylinders. They have the firepower now, but defense and goaltending will be key in those big matchups.
There’s going to be some serious competition for the championship this year, with Frölunda and Skellefteå also looking strong. What’s your prediction, Peter?
PF: It’s going to be tight! Växjö definitely has a shot. But don’t discount Frölunda’s experience,and Skellefteå’s never-say-die attitude. It’s going to be a thrilling season for sure.
What advice would you give to Elvenes as he embarks on this new chapter?
PF:Lucas, just keep playing your game. Be confident, trust your instincts, and enjoy the ride.Växjö is a great club with passionate fans. Soak it all in, and let’s see that Le Mat Trophy in Växjö next year!
