SonoraS Archers Shine at National Tournament
Sonoran archers showcased their skills at the “Dafne Quintero” National Archery Tournament held in Monclova, Coahuila, securing an notable haul of three medals: gold, silver, and bronze. Over 200 archers from across Mexico competed in this prestigious event, making Sonora’s achievements even more remarkable.
Leading the charge was paúl Antonio Rodríguez, a rising star in the Sub 18 Men’s Recurve category. Rodríguez dominated the competition, securing first place in the Qualifying Round and ultimately clinching the gold medal after a thrilling final match against Coahuila’s Bernardo Molina, with a score of 6-4. His journey to victory included decisive wins over Alonso Herrera (6-0) and fellow Sonoran archer Isaac Venegas (7-3), contributing to Sonora’s overall success.
venegas, despite his loss to Rodríguez, demonstrated resilience and determination, ultimately earning the bronze medal. He overcame regiomontano Bogal Ramírez in a nail-biting tiebreaker (6-5), after defeating José Miguel Rendón (7-3) and Daniel Neira (6-4) earlier in the tournament.
Isabella Marie Gómez Uribe, competing in the Sub 14 Mixed Recurve category, secured the silver medal after a hard-fought battle against Diego Alberto Martínez from Nuevo León. Gómez Uribe’s impressive performance included a second-place finish in the Qualifying Round, highlighting her consistent skill and composure.
Two other Sonoran archers, Teresa Lileth Acosta (Sub 14 Mixed Recurve) and Francisco joaquín Mora (Sub 14 Mixed Compound), narrowly missed the podium, finishing in a commendable fourth place.
In addition to the “Dafne Quintero” tournament, three Sonoran archers participated in the First National Selection for international events in the Senior category. Saúl alejandro Peña and Dafne Lizbeth Figueroa competed in recurve, while Ramón Daniel Fonseca showcased his talent in Compound.

Juan Carlos: It’s fantastic news! Sonora has always been a powerhouse in archery, and these results solidify their position.
The three medals speak volumes about the dedication and hard work of these young archers, and the commitments of their coaches and families.
Undeniably, Paul Antonio Rodríguez’s gold medal win in the Sub 18 Men’s recurve category is a standout moment. Can you shed light on his journey and what makes him such a rising star?
Juan Carlos: Paul is a natural talent. He possesses an unbelievable focus and unwavering determination. We’ve been working together for a few years now, and his progress has been nothing short of remarkable. He’s a disciplined athlete, constantly striving to improve his technique and mental game. his performance at the “Dafne Quintero” tournament was truly impressive. He dominated the qualifying round and remained composed under pressure in the finals.
His battle with Bernardo Molina must have been intense. What qualities do you think ultimately gave paul the edge?
Juan Carlos: Bernardo is a formidable opponent, there’s no doubt whatsoever.
Paul’s mental fortitude played a significant role in his victory. He was able to stay calm and focused, even when the pressure was on.
He executed his shots with precision and confidence.
It was a truly inspiring display of archery.
it’s marvelous to see young archers like Paul and Isaac Venegas, who earned bronze in the same category, pushing each other to new heights. How vital is that internal competition within a team?
Juan Carlos: Healthy competition is crucial for any sport, and archery is no exception.
Having talented teammates who inspire and challenge each other creates a culture of excellence.
It pushes each individual to train harder and perform at their best. Isaac, despite his loss to Paul, displayed tremendous resilience by bouncing back to claim the bronze. It shows the depth of talent we have in Sonora.
What about Isabella Marie Gómez Uribe’s silver in the Sub 14 Mixed Recurve category? What can you tell us about her potential?
Juan Carlos: Isabella is another exceptional talent. Her silver medal performance at such a young age is truly remarkable. She has a natural aptitude for archery and displays maturity and focus beyond her years. Isabella possesses the potential to be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come.

Juan Carlos: that’s the ultimate goal, isn’t it? Sonora has a strong track record of producing archers who compete internationally. With continued hard work and dedication, I believe some of them definitely have what it takes to represent Mexico on the world stage.
