Paris Basketball snapped a five-game losing streak in the EuroLeague on Tuesday, defeating Efes Istanbul 88-84 at the Arena Porte de la Chapelle. This crucial victory, their 12th of the season against eight losses, keeps them in sixth place in the standings with a game in hand.
The win was especially meaningful as it marked the team’s first victory in over a month. As Yakuba Ouattara, the team’s fullback, noted, “It was a pivotal moment for us. We’re still learning, everything is new, and how we respond to these challenges will shape the team.”
Paris started strong, dominating the first quarter 19-13 with a solid defensive performance. However, they struggled to maintain their lead, allowing Efes Istanbul to capitalize on offensive lapses and the strong play of Vincent Poirier, who contributed 10 points, six rebounds, and an assist.
The game remained tightly contested throughout, with both teams trading baskets. Paris relied on the sharpshooting of Darius Thompson, Nadir Hifi, and Ouattara, who countered Elijah Bryant’s 21 points for Efes Istanbul with timely three-pointers.
Despite some inconsistencies,Paris displayed resilience and determination. As Ouattara emphasized,”There were ups and downs, but our fighting spirit and defensive aggressiveness were key. We didn’t give up.”
Coach Tiago Splitter acknowledged Efes Istanbul’s dominance on the boards (45 rebounds to 26), but praised his team’s offensive contributions. TJ Shorts led the scoring with 17 points and 8 assists, while Collin Malcolm, Nadir Hifi, Ouattara, and Mikael Jantunen all reached double figures.
Jantunen’s clutch three-pointer with 45 seconds remaining sealed the victory, sending the home crowd into a frenzy. This win not only ends Paris’ losing streak but also injects much-needed momentum as they prepare to face Maccabi tel aviv on Thursday in another high-stakes home game.
breaking Down Paris Basketball’s Crucial Victory: An Interview with Coach tiago Splitter
Welcome back, basketball fans! Today, I’m thrilled to have a very special guest, Coach Tiago Splitter of Paris Basketball. Coach Splitter, welcome to the show.
Tiago Splitter: Thanks for having me.
Moderator: Let’s jump right in. Paris just snapped a five-game losing streak against a tough Efes Istanbul team. this win must feel especially significant.
Tiago Splitter: It definately is.We’ve been battling some injuries adn inconsistency over the past few weeks, so this win against a quality opponent like Efes is a huge boost for our morale. Yakuba Ouattara’s point about this being a “pivotal moment” really resonates. This is a young team, and learning to respond positively in crucial situations will be key to our long-term success.
Moderator: absolutely. Paris started strong, dominating the first quarter but struggled to maintain that energy throughout the game. What were your thoughts on the team’s performance?
Tiago Splitter: Well, we were definitely firing on all cylinders in that first quarter, playing with great defensive intensity.
Efes is a talented team, though, and they fought back hard. They dominated the boards, which is something we need to address moving forward. Vincent Poirier was a force for them, chipping in crucial rebounds and points.
Having saeid that, our guys showed grit and resilience, never giving up despite the ups and downs. Those clutch three-pointers from Darius Thompson, Nadir Hifi, and Yakuba Ouattara were game-changers.
moderator: You mentioned the team’s resilience. Ouattara specifically praised the team’s “fighting spirit and defensive aggressiveness.” Do you think those qualities will be crucial for Paris going forward?
Tiago Splitter: I agree wholeheartedly. We need to bring that same intensity and play with a sense of urgency on both ends of the court. The EuroLeague is extremely competitive, and we won’t win many games without consistently playing tough, steadfast basketball.
Moderator:
Looking ahead to the maccabi Tel Aviv game on Thursday, another home matchup, what are your expectations?
Tiago Splitter: Maccabi is another formidable opponent.
We know they’ll be coming in fired up to bounce back after their latest loss.
but we’ve got the momentum now after this win, and playing at home in front of our amazing fans will be a big advantage. We’ll need to be at our best, and if we can continue to show the heart and fight we displayed against Efes, I’m confident we can pull off another big win.
