this Wednesday, the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) and the Muñoz Peña family will commemorate the 14th anniversary of the passing of Roque Napoleón Muñoz, a prominent figure in Dominican sports. A Eucharist will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the San Antonio María Claret parish in Santo Domingo, inviting the sports community to honor his legacy.The COD, through a circular signed by President Garibaldy Bautista Lorenzo and General Secretary Luis Chanlatte, has extended an invitation to all members of its executive committee and National Sports Federations. The call also extends to a wider audience, including sports leaders, coaches, athletes, and sports enthusiasts in general.
Muñoz, who passed away on January 15, 2011, left an indelible mark on Dominican sports. He served as president of the COD and held a distinguished position as a member of the International Olympic Committee. His influence extended beyond national borders, as he was also a member of the Executive Committee of Panam Sports (formerly the Pan American Sports Organization) and Centro Caribe Sports (formerly the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization).
Recognized for his significant contributions, Muñoz was inducted into the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame in 1965. his dedication to sports extended beyond competition, as he was a passionate advocate for the arts and culture.
The Eucharist will be attended by COD leaders, representatives from National sports Federations, associations, clubs, leagues, athletes, Sports Unions, and the wider athletic community. Family, friends, and members of the San Antonio María Claret Parish, were Muñoz was a member, are also expected to participate in this tribute.
