Coach Johnson:
“Well,it’s a natural progression,isn’t it? Ewers had a good run,a Big 12 championship,a couple of playoff appearances – you can’t discount that. But in this day and age, quarterbacks looking to the NFL while they still have eligibility isn’t unusual. As for Manning, the kid’s got the pedigree, the bloodlines are undeniable. The pressure will be immense, but he’s got the talent to thrive in that kind of environment.”
It’s true, Coach, Ewers achieved a lot during his time at Texas. But there were some inconsistencies. Do you think Manning has the potential to be more consistently dominant?
Coach Johnson:
“Potential? Absolutely.But potential doesn’t guarantee success.Manning needs to develop consistency, learn to read defenses, and lead his team. those are learned skills, honed through experience.
And he’ll need time to gel with a new set of teammates. Losing receivers like Mattiew Golden and Isaiah Bond is significant. They were security blankets for Ewers, and their departure creates a new challenge for Manning.”
It’s not just the receivers, coach. The offensive line lost some key pieces too.
Coach Johnson:
“Exactly! Kelvin Banks Jr. and Cam Williams were stalwarts,and those are big shoes to fill. Offensive line play is crucial, especially for a young quarterback trying to find his footing. This is where coaching comes in, developing that offensive line, finding the right combinations.
Steve Sarkisian has a tough job ahead of him, but he’s a good coach. He knows how to build a strong offense.”

“Optimistic? Always.
