LIV Golf Enters New Era with Scott O’Neill at the Helm
LIV Golf has announced a leadership transition, with Scott O’Neill taking over as CEO, succeeding Greg Norman. This change comes as LIV Golf continues to reshape the landscape of professional golf.
Norman, a legendary golfer known as the “White Shark,” played a pivotal role in launching LIV Golf in 2021. His star power and vision helped attract top-tier talent, propelling the institution’s rapid growth. However, rumors of his departure surfaced during the merger negotiations with the PGA Tour.
LIV Golf expressed gratitude for Norman’s contributions, stating, “There was no one more fitting to lead LIV Golf in its infancy. We are indebted to him for establishing, launching, and growing the organization.” Norman will remain involved with LIV Golf in a non-executive capacity.
O’Neill brings over 25 years of experience in managing sports and entertainment brands to his new role. His impressive resume includes leading Harris Bleacher Sports & Entertainment, which owns prominent franchises like the NBA’s New York Knicks and philadelphia 76ers, and most recently, serving as CEO of Merlin Entertainments.
Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Chairman of LIV Golf, expressed confidence in O’neill’s ability to guide the organization into its next chapter. “Building on the remarkable achievements of the past three years,we are thrilled to welcome O’Neill to the LIV Golf family,” he said. “His expertise will be instrumental in solidifying LIV Golf’s position as a global leader in sports and entertainment, fostering strong relationships with teams and players.”
O’Neill echoed this sentiment, emphasizing LIV Golf’s innovative approach and its potential to shape the future of golf. ”What LIV Golf has accomplished in just three years is truly unusual,” he remarked. “LIV Golf represents the future of the sport, ensuring its vibrancy and growth for generations to come.”
This leadership transition comes at a pivotal moment for LIV Golf, as it navigates a complex and evolving landscape in professional golf. With O’Neill’s experience and vision at the helm, the organization is poised to continue its aspiring trajectory.

Annika: greg Norman undoubtedly played a crucial role in getting LIV off the ground. He was a visionary and a driving force behind the entire project. His name recognition and passion for the game attracted top talent and brought attention to the league. however, the merger negotiations with the PGA Tour where complex, and it’s understandable that there may have been differing opinions regarding the best path forward.

Annika: Absolutely. O’Neill’s experience managing major brands like the Knicks and Sixers, along with his tenure at Merlin Entertainments, gives him a unique perspective. LIV Golf needs someone who understands both the sporting side and the business aspects of this merger. It’s a delicate balancing act, and O’Neill’s diverse experience could prove invaluable.
