South Korea’s badminton sensation, Ahn Se-young (Samsung Life Insurance), continues her dominance in the international circuit, securing her second consecutive win this year with an impeccable performance.
On January 17 (Korean time), Ahn Se-young triumphed over Yeo Yeo-min (Singapore) in the women’s singles quarterfinals of the ‘Yonex-Sunrise India Open 2025,’ a prestigious Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Super 750 event held in New Delhi, India. The world’s top-ranked player showcased her prowess, defeating her 13th-ranked opponent in straight sets (21-11, 21-12) in just 36 minutes.
This victory marks her second consecutive win in international tournaments this year. Last week, Ahn Se-young clinched the Malaysia Open title for the second year in a row, becoming the first Korean player in the tournament’s 88-year history to achieve back-to-back women’s singles victories.
What’s more notable is her undefeated streak this year, with no sets lost across eight matches. notably, in the Malaysia Open finals, she avenged her previous losses by defeating Wang zhiyi (2nd place, China) in straight sets. Wang had defeated Ahn in their last two encounters,including the semifinals of the 2024 BWF World Tour Finals.
Ahn Se-young is set to face Gregoria Mariska Tunjung (Indonesia) in the semifinals on January 18.Tunjung, ranked 5th globally, secured her spot by defeating Pusala sindhu (India), ranked 16th and often referred to as India’s badminton star.
