Napoli extended thier lead at the summit of the Italian Championship to six points after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Atalanta this Saturday in Bergamo.
Napoli solidified their position at the top of Serie A with a hard-fought 3-2 win against Atalanta on Saturday, during the 21st matchday, which also saw Juventus secure a 2-0 victory over AC Milan.
Under Antonio Conte’s guidance, Napoli showcased their resilience once again. despite falling behind in the 16th minute due to a goal from Mateo Retegui, Serie A’s leading scorer, the Neapolitans quickly responded. Matteo Politano equalized in the 27th minute, followed by a stunning strike from Scott McTominay in the 40th minute to take the lead.
Atalanta fought back with Ademola Lookman’s equalizer in the 55th minute, but Romelu Lukaku’s decisive header in the 78th minute sealed the victory for Napoli.
This win marked Napoli’s first triumph over Atalanta since their 3-0 defeat at the Diego-Armando-Maradona stadium two and a half months ago. Atalanta, currently in a rough patch with three draws and one defeat in their last four matches, had previously enjoyed an 11-game winning streak between October and December.
“This was a crucial match against a direct competitor, but the season is far from over. There’s still room for advancement,” Lukaku commented. With this sixth consecutive victory, Napoli now sits comfortably at the top with 50 points, six ahead of Inter Milan (44 points, with two games in hand) and seven ahead of Atalanta (43 points).
