Amid ongoing speculation surrounding Jimmy Butler’s future, the Miami heat delivered a commanding performance, defeating the San Antonio Spurs 128-107 on Sunday.
This victory marked a much-needed turnaround for the Heat, ending a three-game losing streak, while the spurs continued to struggle, suffering their third consecutive defeat. Both teams are fiercely competing to secure their spots in the playoffs.
Butler, who recently expressed dissatisfaction with his time in Miami and requested a trade earlier this month, spent the entire fourth quarter on the bench as the Heat maintained a 27-point lead. In 27 minutes and 47 seconds of play, he contributed 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 7 assists, slightly exceeding his season average in assists.
This was his second game back after serving a seven-game suspension imposed by the Heat for conduct deemed detrimental to the team.In his previous outing, he scored 18 points in a 133-113 loss to the Denver Nuggets.
While Butler’s performance was subdued, the Heat’s bench players stepped up significantly. Kel’el Ware led the charge with 25 points, followed by Terry Rozier with 20 and Nikola Jovic with 14. Among the starters, Duncan Robinson stood out with 21 points.
The Heat’s explosive third quarter, where they scored 46 points, proved decisive in building an insurmountable lead. Head coach Erik Spoelstra had previously criticized his team’s defensive lapses in the loss to the Nuggets, but they showed marked improvement against the Spurs.
For San Antonio, Victor Wembanyama managed 21 points, trailing Devin Vassell’s team-high 23. Wembanyama has yet to secure a win against the Heat in their three matchups this season.
