exclusive Interview with Dominik Falk: Analyzing TuRa Harksheide’s recent Judo Successes and Challenges
Moderator: Welcome, everyone, to our latest sports interview! Today, we’re joined by Dominik Falk, the head coach of TuRa Harksheide’s judo team and a seasoned judo veteran himself. Dominik, thank you for taking the time to chat with us today.
Dominik Falk: Thank you for having me. It’s always a pleasure to discuss judo and the amazing efforts of our athletes.
Moderator: Let’s dive right in. TuRa Harksheide had a fantastic start to the year at the Hermann Cup in Schwerin, with seven athletes competing and six bringing home medals. What does this success mean for the club?
Dominik Falk: It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of our athletes and coaches. The Hermann Cup is a prestigious event, and to see our younger competitors like Annemarie Kalbe and Jake Wendeler excel in thier categories is incredibly rewarding. It’s not just about the medals; it’s about the growth and confidence they gain from competing at such a high level.
Moderator: Annemarie Kalbe’s 1st place finish in the U18 category must have been a highlight. What do you think sets her apart as a judoka?
Dominik Falk: Annemarie is exceptionally focused and disciplined. She has a natural talent for judo, but what makes her stand out is her ability to stay calm under pressure. She’s always analyzing her opponents and adapting her strategy mid-match. Her win at the Hermann Cup was well-deserved, and I’m excited to see where her career takes her.
Moderator: Moving on to the Hamburg State League, TuRa Harksheide had a mixed performance, narrowly defeating TH Eilbeck 5:4 but losing 1:8 to ETV. How do you assess these results?
Dominik Falk: It’s a classic case of highs and lows in team sports. The win against TH Eilbeck was hard-fought, and I’m proud of how the team pulled together to secure that victory. Against ETV, we faced a stronger opponent, and the scoreline doesn’t fully reflect the competitiveness of the matches. We lost two close matches after initially being ahead, which was disappointing but also a learning experience for the team.
Moderator: You mentioned that “with a bit more focus and fortune, the outcome could have been different.” Can you elaborate on that?
Dominik Falk: Absolutely. In judo, small details can make a big difference. Against ETV, we had moments where we were in control but couldn’t capitalize due to penalties or last-minute mistakes. It’s frustrating, but it’s also a reminder of how critically important mental toughness and composure are in this sport. We’ll be working on those aspects in training to ensure we’re better prepared for similar situations in the future.
Moderator: Hannes Jacobs was a standout performer, scoring in both matches. What makes him such a valuable asset to the team?
Dominik Falk: Hannes is a fighter in every sense of the word. He’s incredibly steadfast and has a knack for delivering when it matters most. His performance against ETV, in particular, was commendable. Even though the team result wasn’t what we wanted, he showed great resilience and skill. He’s a leader on the mat and sets a great example for the younger athletes.
Moderator: Looking ahead, what are the key areas of improvement for TuRa Harksheide as you prepare for future competitions?
Dominik falk: We need to focus on consistency and mental strength. We’ve shown that we can compete with the best, but we need to ensure we’re performing at that level in every match. We’ll also be working on refining our techniques and strategies to minimize errors. The goal is to keep improving and building on the successes we’ve had so far.
