A triumphant start to the new year
21.01.25 – Record-breaking participation with over 800 competitors: On saturday, January 11th, the Hermann cup unfolded in Schwerin, the capital of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. This prestigious tournament attracts top-tier judokas, particularly from Northern Germany. Representing the first Fulda Judo club, Christian Krüger made his third appearance at the event.
Kicking off his campaign in the -66 kilogram category with a bye,Krüger faced Stanislav Shamrov from KSV Grimmen, who had previously secured fifth place in the Northeast German Championships. Demonstrating his skill, Krüger executed a flawless Tai-otoshi, scoring an Ippon within just 25 seconds.
Advancing to the semifinals, Krüger encountered Nick Schefer from TuS Zeven, a fifth-place finisher in the North German Championships. This matchup echoed their clash from the previous year, where Krüger emerged victorious. Despite initial struggles against Schefer, Krüger secured a Yuko score with a Ko-soto-gake technique after 40 seconds. Schefer leveled the score three minutes later, pushing the match into overtime. Known for his prowess in golden score scenarios, Krüger clinched victory with an Ippon via Ko-uchi-makikomi after an additional 95 seconds.
In the final, Krüger faced Nematullah Mohamadi from Eimsbütteler TV, a silver medalist at the Hamburg Championships. Despite a valiant effort, Krüger found himself caught in a chokehold after attempting a Seoi-otoshi. Unable to escape, he conceded the match. Still, Krüger’s performance against three national championship medalists was commendable, earning him a well-deserved silver medal. This achievement marks a promising start to 2025 for the fulda judoka. (kg/pm) +++
