Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- Prisca Guadalupe White Alcaraz, the Olympic medalist from Paris 2024, shared her journey in Judo during the XV National technical Congress of Judo Coaches.
Accompanied by hour, notable attendees included Lilliam Estrada Bautista, president of the Federation; Cecilia Martínez Aguilera from the education commission; Blanca Alvarado García, ISDE Southern Zone Coordinator; Fabiola Green, director of Imdem; and Jorge Luis Atencio, Olympic coach.
During her talk, Alcaraz recounted her early days in Judo and her rise to professional success, offering valuable insights for coaches.
“discipline and enjoyment are crucial for high performance. My coach always emphasized this. Whether it’s being the first at competitions, on the bus, or on the plane, striving to be the best requires discipline. But it’s equally crucial to love what you do. If you’re not happy, you’ll face needless struggles,” she remarked.

Prisca also discussed her decision to switch her representation from England to Mexico.
“In 2017, I suffered a knee injury and felt unsupported due to political reasons. when my coach asked about my connection to Mexico, I spoke with my mom, who was thrilled at the idea. Her tears of joy confirmed my decision. I approached the federation to make the change, knowing it was the right step to honor my Mexican heritage,” she explained.
Reflecting on her first Olympic experience in Tokyo, Prisca admitted it was far from easy, marked by immense pressure and disappointment.
“It wasn’t the dream I envisioned. Three weeks before the games, they announced no spectators woudl be allowed. I had always imagined my family cheering me on during my first Olympics,” she shared.
“Being the sole Mexican representative added to the pressure. I felt I had let down my family, my country, and my sponsors,” she told Hour.
Despite the challenges, Prisca’s unexpected triumph at paris 2024 was a testament to her resilience. “I didn’t expect to win a medal. My ranking was low, and the first half of 2024 was tough—I placed fifth in the Pan-American and lost early in the World Championships. But my coach’s unwavering support kept me going. Standing on that podium with a gold medal is a moment I’ll cherish forever,” she concluded.
